Abstract art

Abstract art paintings do not “represent” a mirror reality.  Instead, the visual language that abstract art creates with form, colour, line and texture allows the viewer to subjectively interpret the art in a very personal way.

Abstract art can be extremely powerful.  It allows you to explore your mind in such way that you go beyond what you see, in order to find out what you feel.  It is said that the more abstract a work of art, the less preconceptions it evokes in the mind of beholder.

This does not mean that abstract art can be created by a 2 year old using meaningless shapes and colours thrown on canvas.  Good abstract art can only be created if the artist understands design and composition.  The artist also needs the technical skills to be able to draw and paint.  The challenge with abstract art is to be able to go beyond the skills and techniques that we rely on as artists.

When I first started painting in abstract form, I realized how difficult it was to create art by listening to my inner feelings rather than skilfully depicting what I could see in reality.  I had no “visual reality” to go by in order to create my abstract art painting.  It was dependent on my emotional response to things that I saw or events that I experienced.

The more I enter the powerful world of abstract art, the more I realize how difficult it is to truly express how I feel and what inspires me.  Because there are no preconceptions, it allows the viewer to interpret the art's meaning in their own way - which opens up a large window to the creative mind?  Often the reason people have trouble appreciating abstract art is because they try too hard to understand its meaning or to make some sort of sense in their conventional way of viewing.  I often tell my clients who come through my gallery “You don't have to understand. You just have to feel it.”

Each painting creates an energy.  It is this energy that I want the viewer to feel rather than what he or she sees in the art.  Everything in the universe has its own frequency and its own energy.  If there is no energy, there is no life.  Art created through pure emotions can hold powerful energy and that's what speaks to the viewer's mind.  This energy can be positive and up-lifting or it can be negative and depressing.  It all depends on the message that the artist is trying to express in her art.  This energy can also be very raw and can powerfully evoke people's emotions.

When you enter into a room with music and art work that has a calm & healing energy, people feel relaxed.  When you enter into a room with music and art work that has heavy dark energy, people experience feelings of depression or uncertainty.  I personally enjoy creating paintings that generate positive energy.  It can vary from peaceful, calming, healing, joyful, uplifting and pleasant.  It is rewarding to see my clients simply feel happiness and joy when they look at my paintings in their own space.

Art is a freedom of expression, whether in abstract or realistic form. I never take for granted the fact that I live in a society and time which allows me to express my feelings and emotions through my abstract paintings and that I am able to share my art with others
