Experience art; experience ArtWave, April 2-4, 2010
|
ArtWave is back - bigger and better! This time, 10 Pender Harbour area studios and galleries are gearing up for their second ArtWave tour, to be held during the Easter Weekend (April 2-4).
Members of the public are encouraged to make a day of it or even three days of it to tour and experience the artistic culture of the Pender Harbour area. Participating studios and galleries will open their doors to showcase a wide range of artistic creations, including many brand new works produced by local artists.
The first ArtWave weekend, held in December, was highly successful and featured eight galleries and studios. This time, with two more galleries participating, the ArtWave tour now extends to Egmont. Visitors will be issued with passport cards and encouraged to visit all 10 galleries. For those who do make the rounds of all 10, the rewards include a diverse cultural experience and a chance to win prizes.
As in December, participating ArtWave studios and galleries will make a donation in support of the Pender Harbour Food Bank. Funds donated to the food bank will aid singles, couples and families who need help just to put food on their tables.
The participating galleries, located all around Pender Harbour (from Madeira Park to Garden Bay to Daniel Point) and in Egmont, include:
• The Harbour Gallery, a preview of new works by this cooperative of local artists
• Copper Sky Gallery & Café, a collection of art and fine craft by local BC artists
• FibreWorks Gallery, fibre arts in yurts
• The Piecefull Glass Canvas, limited edition sculptures, stained and mosaic glass
• The Flying Anvil Studio & Gallery, forged, fabricated and funky things
• Jack Gibson Fine Art Creations Ltd., limited edition sculptures, fine art reliefs
• Motoko's Original Art Studio & Gallery, contemporary paintings by Motoko, originals, limited edition prints, gift items and art cards
• Blue Orca Studio, contemporary fine art and gemstone jewelry
• Bluff Hollow Cement Works, lightweight concrete art, specializing in faces, fountains, torsos and whimsy
• Geopia, art and ceramics, featuring a huge wood kiln

The first ArtWave tour, December 11 - 13, 2009
ArtWave is a group of artists from Pender Harbour. The first ArtWave tour took place in Pender Harbour on December 11, 12 and 13 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. Each artist opened their studio and gallery so that you could enjoy their visual delights -as well as refreshments. During this ArtWave tour, the artists donated a percentage of their sales to their local Food Bank.
The first ArtWave tour consisted of these wonderful studios and galleries.
• The Harbour Gallery, a cooperative of local artists working in a broad range of media
• Copper Sky Gallery & Café, a collection of art and fine craft by local BC artists
• FibreWorks Gallery, fibre arts in yurts
• The Piecefull Glass Canvas -limited edition sculptures, stained and mosaic glass

Because of its beautiful, intricate waterways, Pender Harbour is often called “Venice of the North”. This fabulous Sunshine Coast tour takes you to Madeira Park, Kleindale and Garden Bay in Pender Harbour, which is actually the body of water that their shores share. Our “Venice of the North” is home to a growing arts community, each one offering something different and unique. You won't want to miss this opportunity to view each gallery and help our local Food Bank.
ArtWave believes that our local Food Bank is an important part of our community and especially at this time of year, “it's better to give than to receive”.
13th annual Pender Harbour Jazz Festival was a huge success
Thanks so much to Laila Biali, Jodi Proznick and Morgan Childs for providing our audience with a fabulous show. The event was "sold out" and when the sun came out, we opened the show to our outside amphitheater and over 200 people had the privilege of becoming "Laila" fans.
The gallery will now be closed from October to May. However, Motoko is available to open the gallery and meet customers by appointment. Just give her a call at 604-883-9472 or email at info@motokoart.com .

Motoko is proud to present..
Jazz Musician, Laila Biali, on Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. This concert was originally scheduled on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the Gallery. HOWEVER, we have had a special request by Laila to postpone the show one day. Laila has been invited to play with Sting in London on September 18 & 19, so how could we say NO to that kind of opportunity. Laila will make it back to Garden Bay by Sunday and the show will go on - just one day later than planned. If you already have a ticket and can't make the new time, please phone the Gallery at 604-883-9472 and we will be happy to provide a full refund.
Motoko hosted over 650 spectators at last year's jazz festival. That's proof that it has become a very popular destination event. In 2009, in the event of bad weather, Motoko is planning to hold her event inside her new gallery space. This venue will provide a smaller, intimate setting to hear a spectacular performer. In order to provide a first-class experience, this concert will be by reserved seats only at a ticket cost of $30. This concert will not only showcase the amazing performance by Laila but will also treat you to wine and hor d'oeuvres.
Laila Biali - Evocative and fresh lyrics startingly tender vocals and flowing, melodic piano mark the style of Laila Biali. coming to us from New York, by way of Torono and North Vancouver, Biali is a rocket taking off in the jazz firmament. Not to be missed! Joining Laila are Jodi Proznick, bass and Morgan Childs, drums.
Also learn about Laila from her website.
Tickets for the Laila Biali concert
For the last three years, we were very lucky with the weather and hundreds of people enjoyed the Motoko's Jazz Festival concerts outside set against the magnificent natural amphitheater of her garden.
However, we might not be so lucky with the weather this year and in case it rains, we have planned an intimate indoor concert in Motoko's new gallery, with seating of just over 100. Due to this limited seating, we have already sold out our tickets to The Laila Biali Trio.
So...if the day turns out to be nice, we will set up Laila's concert outside in the garden and make another 50 tickets available to Jazz fans on that day.
Also, we will keep a waiting list in case of ticket cancellations. Please contact the gallery now at info@motokoart.com or 604-883-9472 - to have your name placed on our priority waiting list.
IF IT'S A SUNNY DAY, please contact the gallery to ask if more tickets are available.
Thank you very much for your support.
